Why are we different?

Who are "we?" We are Patty Franchi Flaherty and Karen Webster, Dana-Farber trustees and cancer survivors. We are here to support every woman who has had breast or ovarian cancer. Through our twoAM (two women on A Mission) Fund, we will provide resources to Dana-Farber to bring doctors and researchers together, not only across disciplines, but also across research labs and oncology centers to find cures and garner the collective knowledge from experts in these fields. TwoAM will help forge the way to find a link between these two diseases, a novel concept in women's cancers research, by fostering communication and national awareness between breast and ovarian cancer communities.

Not only are we working to aid researchers in establishing this link, we are also helping to bring this research directly to patients' bedsides. The physicians we support, Dana-Farber's Eric Winer, MD, director of the Breast Oncology Center and Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Ursula Matulonis, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, provide a patient-centric focus on their innovative research. This funding will allow them to take directions and paths that can help to accelerate the pace to finding cures.
