Trot Nixon's home run visit to Sturbridge Town Hall
It wasn't an average day at Sturbridge Town Hall on Wednesday, June 21. Red Sox right-fielder Trot Nixon stopped by for an hour in the middle of the day to sign autographs and talk to town employees.
Team Sturbridge came in first place for the Jimmy Fund's Rally Against CancerSM, winning the visit from Nixon. The team of around 200 people raised $12,373 for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
More than 360 businesses and schools throughout Red Sox Nation formed teams to participate in the first Rally Against Cancer, raising a total of $280,000 to strike out cancer. Team members each contributed at least $5 to the Jimmy Fund. In return for their donation, team members were allowed to wear Red Sox gear to work or school on the day of the Sox home opener on April 11. Teams were not only supporting the life-saving mission of the Jimmy Fund, they were also vying for a visit from number seven.
The Jimmy Fund has been an official charity of the Boston Red Sox since 1953.
