Lance Armstrong is riding the first leg of the 32nd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge from Sturbridge to Bourne and has committed to raising at least $6,000 for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.

He'll share the road with Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown and 5,100 other cyclists from 37 states and eight countries, including former Boston Bruins players Bob Sweeney and Frank Simonetti, WCVB anchor Ed Harding, WBZ anchors Lisa Hughes and David Wade, NECN' TV Diner gal Jenny Johnson and meteorologist Danielle Niles, NESN's voice of the Bruins Jack Edwards and WEEI's Gerry Callahan and Chris Villani.

Rialto Chef Jody Adams will ride for the first time, and back as veteran riders are New Balance CEO Rob DeMartini and Red Sox wives Stacey Lucchino, Tiffany Ortiz, and Jacque Francona.

All will ride up to 190 miles on 11 routes on Aug. 6 and 7 to collectively raise $34 million and bring the PMC's 32-year Jimmy Fund contribution beyond the $337 million mark.

The PMC is the most successful athletic fundraising event in the United States, annually raising and contributing more money to charity than any other. It is also among the most efficient, as it gives 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause.
