Treat yourself to a sweet dessert Mother's Day week to support breast cancer research, education and treatment. Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, a culinary and fundraising tradition, is reaching out to Hingham restaurants. The event benefits the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund, which has been raising "dough" since 2000 for the Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

From Monday, May 7, through Mother's Day on Sunday, May 13, pastry chefs from more than 100 restaurants in and around Boston, including Tosca on North Street, will bake a unique dessert to put on their menu with 100 percent of sales benefiting the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund.

Tosca's Pastry Chef, Maria Cavaleri Gilardo, is making a special Brown and Pink Parfait with layers of chocolate and raspberry mousse, and whipped cream. The parfait is served with Italian butter cookies dipped in chocolate. Cavaleri Gilardo and Executive Chef Kevin Long have been supporting Boston Bakes for years, but this year the mission hits close to home.

Long's 52-year-old mother, Jane Long of Rockland, was diagnosed with breast cancer just a few weeks ago. She's already had one successful surgery, but the news was shocking. "I'm just glad my mom is ok," says Long. Adding, "who doesn't have a connection to breast cancer? As a result, Boston Bakes is something everyone in our kitchen, our servers, and customers can understand and support."

To make a reservation at Tosca during Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, call 781- 740-0080 or go to www.toscahingham.com. For a full list of participating restaurants, visit www.bostonbakesforbreastcancer.org.

Founders of the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund created Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer as a sweet and delicious way to honor mothers, sisters, and friends like Jane Long and to continue battling the disease. The program has raised more than $190,000, and this year organizers hope to reach $225,000.
