Dana-Farber holiday cards, candles and ornaments on sale to help fight cancer

Exclusive designs by cancer patients and local artists

Holiday cards collection

A festive collection of holiday cards, candles and ornaments to support the fight against cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass., is now on sale. Dana-Farber is recognized by the National Cancer Institute as a leader in cancer research and care and is renowned for using its discoveries to improve cancer treatment for children and adults around the world.

There are 15 different designs and greetings in the 2007 card collection. Each box includes 15 cards with the same artwork and 16 envelopes to wish friends and family Seasons Greetings, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or Happy New Year. The cards come in a variety of styles. Highlights include photos of Boston Common and Faneuil Hall, plus Boston Red Sox and Patriots cards for New England sports enthusiasts.

Some cards have an added personal touch with artwork created by Dana-Farber patients. An 8-year-old getting treatment in the Jimmy Fund Clinic drew a sleigh filled with gifts. The message inside reads "Enjoy this magical time of year."

Dana-Farber also has three limited edition Aunt Sadie's candles. Lee Benson, a father of two and artist from Marlborough, Mass., who has been in remission from acute myelogenous leukemia for nearly six years, designed the label of a cranberry-orange scented Aunt Sadie's holiday candle. His "Touchdown Santa," painting depicts Santa scoring for the Patriots. The other candles available include a pine scented Fenway Park and a gingerbread scented candle with ducklings gracing the label.

The Dana-Farber ornament collection continues with the sports theme, showcasing either Fenway Park or a Patriots helmet.

All items are $20, with 100 percent of sales going directly to Dana-Farber through its Jimmy Fund. Visit jimmyfund.org/holiday to view the entire 2007 holiday card, candle and ornament collection and to make a purchase online.

After Columbus Day the cards will be sold in Crate & Barrel retail stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and beginning Nov. 1, the entire collection will be sold in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute lobby at 44 Binney Street, Boston.

Imprinting is also offered for in the cards, including company logos and customized messages, for an additional charge. Orders will be accepted until January 2008. Delivery takes 2 – 3 weeks. Call Amy Powers at (617) 582-7724 with any questions or to place an order.
