5th Anniversary of A Chance for KidsSM celebrated at Burger King restaurants
May 3 – June 7
For more than 55 years, the Jimmy Fund has been giving kids with cancer a chance by supporting cancer research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. For the past five years, New England and greater New York Burger King restaurants and their customers have been doing the same through the A Chance for Kids program that benefits the Jimmy Fund.
One of the Jimmy Fund's fastest growing fundraising programs, A Chance for Kids will be held at more than 540 Burger King restaurants in New England, eastern New York State, New Jersey and Pennsylvania beginning May 3 and continuing through June 7. The goal is to raise $1.1 million to fund life-saving cancer research into all forms of pediatric cancers.
Everyone is a winner in the program, which asks Burger King customers if they'd like to make a $1 gift to the Jimmy Fund. In return, they receive a scratch card that enables them to win prizes such as Burger King products with a value of $1 or more, round-trip Amtrak tickets, HomeGoods gift certificates, or the top prize of a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.
"The generosity of Burger King Corporation and the many people who frequent Burger Kings in the Northeast has been unprecedented," says Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund. "They have already given the Jimmy Fund more than $2.6 million and that support is helping to raise the chances of survival for children facing cancer throughout the world."
In a special tribute to the five-year anniversary, five youngsters being treated for cancer at the world-renowned Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber are providing the faces of the A Chance for Kids campaign. Affectionately dubbed "Small Fries" by Burger King Corporation, Monáa, Adams, Amber, Craig, and Popeye represent all pediatric cancer patients who will be helped by this program.
"Childhood cancer is a devastating disease," says Jim Joy, vice president of Northeast Division, Burger King Corporation. "We are proud to combine our efforts to help 'Small Fries' beat cancer for another year."
